How to make newspaper pots for seed sowing

There are all manner of pots that you can buy to sow your seed in.  There are module trays, root trainers, jiffy pellets to name but a few.

I was given some module trays by a client when she was living the UK and heading to the States.  If I am going to sow lots of seeds, then I use them.  If not, I like to make newspaper pots.

Six reasons I like newspaper pots

  1. They don’t cost me anything to make
  2. I can make them any size I want
  3. I can use waste products to make them
  4. They are biodegradable
  5. As they are biodegradable then you disturb the root less when transplanting them
  6. They are fun to make, however old you are.

FAQ

What about the ink?  The ink in newspaper in soya based, and doesn’t cause any issues for the seeds.

Hello Hedvig, I love the pots, and thought I would see you on a you-tube like video, rather than just your hands in a series of still shots. Never mind, but I would have preferred to have seen you!
    best wishes. Nicola.

Gotta say your use of ‘neo luddite’ as the newspaper print around the tin can at the top was a brilliant find…!

Always enjoy reading this blog, but this was (possibly) subversive/subliminal !! Wonder if some of the other newsprint was chosen…. 🙂

    Keep on keeping on…
